Celebrant of the mass was Most Rev. Anthony Tonnos,  Bishop of the Diocese of Hamilton.

Notes from ONPC Annual General Meeting - Brantford – held October 28 2006

Hosted by Brantford Particular Council with the generous hospitality of John Slaman, (President} and Cecelia Slaman .

Items achieved:

a) ONPC By-Laws, as revised, passed by Members by Right present, and proxies. The By-Laws now go to SSVP National Council for approval.

b) New Canadian National SSVP logo unveiled on new ONPC banner. Logo will shortly be posted on our ONPC website www.ssvp.on.ca

Notes from SSVP National Council Board - Meeting held in Ottawa November 11 2006.

a) National insurance likely far less expensive -
We are working on the improvement in insurance procedures, where we can confidently insure ALL our activities and works, across Canada at considerable cost savings (cooperating with Diocesan insurance in Ontario). Will be keeping you informed as issues unfold.

b) Young adult twinning/exchange program -
Appreciation was expressed for our ONPC initiatives in pursuing this development with La Antigua, Guatemala.

c) ONPC aboriginal programming initiatives -
National Council encouraged with our shipment of clothes and blankets to students on Longlac reserve, (NW of Thunder Bay) by St Agnes Conference, Thunder Bay.
Said it has some funds to assist us with travel/training to extend our aboriginal programs in the North.

d) Reporting of child abuse -
Nick Volk (ONPC President} raised this issue from our ONPC Oct 28th general meeting. We are required legally to report our perceptions of child abuse in our home visits to children's aid. This is confirmed in a section of our new, revised SSVP Canadian Rule.

Annual Shut-In Mass held at St. Francis Xavier Church in Stoney Creek on May 29, 2006 (posted June 20, 2006)

This year we had approximately 110 people attend the Mass at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Stoney Creek with Auxiliary Bishop Bergie the main Celebrant. [more]
